On November 2, 2016, the seminar “Rambles on the Environment History” was held by the Faculty of History. Prof. Donald Worster, one of the founders of, and leading figures in, the field of environmental history, gave a lecture in NKU. Prof. Yu Xinzhong, Fu Chengshuang from NKU, and RUC Associate Professor Hou Shen attended the academic salons.
Hosted by Prof. Wang Lihua, Prof. Donald Worster introduced his life experiences and explained the reasons for his study of environmental history. Growing up in the countryside, he realized that previous historical studies did not attach enough importance to the ecological factors. Followed by interests, Prof. Donald Worster pioneered in the field of environmental history through difficulties.
Prof. Donald Worster also answered questions from teachers and students. This led to an extremely interesting discussion, including the necessity and feasibility of environmental history in ancient history studies, and the future development trend of environmental history.
