Prof. Gustavo Enrique Santillán and Prof. Mónica Ahumada Figueroa Visits NKU

On the afternoon of July 1, 2017, Prof. Gustavo Enrique Santillán from National Cordoba University of Argentin and Prof. Mónica Ahumada Figueroa from Technical University of Chile visited Nankai University (NKU). Prof. Han Qi, the Associate Dean of the Latin American Research Center in Nankai University, met with the guests in the Faculty of History on Jinnan Campus. About 20 scholars and students attended the meeting.

Prof. Gustavo Enrique Santillán made a speech on the topic of “From a Social Transformation Perspective: The reason why Argentina Changed from Wax to Wane in the Twentieth Century”. He analyzed the social and economic development stages of Argentina since its independence, and pointed out that the economic development of Argentina was a dynamic process influenced by many factors in different periods. The formation of Latifundia system and the pattern of controlling the economy by the big landlord class were the historical roots of the unbalanced economic development in Argentina in twentieth Century.

Prof. Mónica Ahumada Figueroa stated that the famous Chilean painter Jose Venturelli and the famous Chilean painter poet Pablo Neruda established ties between China and Chile as artists. Both of them formed a solid foundation of friendship, influenced the characteristics of the diplomatic style, and promoted the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chile on December 15, 1970.

In the Q&A session, Prof. Han Qi, as well as the students present at the lecture asked questions. Prof. Gustavo Enrique Santillán and Prof. Mónica Ahumada Figueroa’s answers won many applauds.
