On July 6-7, 2017, Prof. Jiang Pei, Dean of faculty of History in NKU, and Prof. Song Zhiyong attended “The Chinese Resistance: The Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression” Forum. 17 Mainland retired Generals, 8 retired Four-Star Generals from Taiwan, as well as 100 scholars from related areas attended this International conference.
This forum followed the spirits of the Xi-Ma meeting in 2015, and supported the cross-straits Anti-Japanese War history development. Since the Taiwan authorities did not carry out the 80th anniversary commemoration of the Anti-Japanese War, the Taiwan Chinese Anti-Japanese War History Memorial Association and the Chinese Anti-Japanese War History Society co-organized the “The Chinese Resistance: The Chinese War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression” Forum to memorize the 35 million victims of the Anti-Japanese War 80 years ago.
Zhang Zhijun, the Director of the Taiwan Affair office, extended congratulations and well wishes to the forum. He stated that two sides across the Straits set a very good example of dispute-settling for the rest of the world as despite their history and differences they were able to talk and seek solutions. By choosing the path of peaceful development and adopting a flexible and pragmatic approach, the forum would not only benefit the Taiwan Strait but also bring peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific.
