NKU Holds a Workshop: The Tianjin Concession History Research

On September 24, the First International Workshop: The Tianjin Concession History Research was held by the Faculty of History in Nankai University. About 10 scholars and students of related areas from England, Australia, Italy, Switzerland, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Tianjin, Tianjin Municipal Archives, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, et al. attended the seminar.

Prof. Jiang Pei, Dean of the Faculty of the History in Nankai University, delivered a speech in the opening ceremony. He expressed welcome to the participants and hoped that the seminar could be served as a platform strengthening understanding of the Tianjin Concession Research through new perspectives, advanced methods, and multilingual historical materials.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Glenda Sluga from the University of Sydney remarked the possibility of breaking the traditional colonial view of the Chinese Concession research. He also introduced his research team and wished the seminar would cultivate high-quality talents so as to make progress in the development of research.

The seminar was divided into two different discussion groups, which were hosted by Prof. Ren Yunlan, Dean of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in Tianjin; and the Associate Prof. Liu Xiaoqin, from the Nankai University. The Tianjin Concession History Workshop successfully ended in a good atmosphere. After excellent presentations delivered by participants, they agreed that the research on the Chinese Concession should focus on globalization, capitalism and modernity perspectives and collect historical  materials at home and abroad.
