The Department of World History was established in 2002. based on the former section of world History in the Department of History, institute of American History and Culture, Center for Latin American Studies and Center for Japanese Studies. Study of world history at Nankai has reached a nationalwide leading position in terms of general resources. World history discipline was selected twice as a national key program in 1998 and 2002 respectively. Studies of American history, Japanese history, Latin – American history and ancient and medieval world history have always been in leading position at home in terms of general resources and academic achievements. Professor Chen Zhiqiang is the Chair currently. There are 11 professors (including 9 doctoral supervisors), 11 associate professors and 3 lecturers with 22 of them holding a Ph. D degree.
