President Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended a symposium on cultural inheritance and development on June 2 and made an important speech. He stressed that it is our new cultural mission in the new era to further promote cultural prosperity and develop a great culture in China and a modern Chinese civilization from a new starting point. It is imperative to have greater confidence in our own culture, shoulder the mission, work diligently and proactively, and make concerted efforts to create a new culture of our times and build a modern Chinese civilization, Xi said.
Chair Professor Li Zhi’an of Nankai University attended the meeting as a representative of experts and scholars and listened to the important speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping at the venue.
I felt quite inspired when I listened to General Secretary's speech very close up!” Li Zhi’an said. As a worker who has long been engaged in teaching and scientific research of history of Yuan Dynasty and ancient China history, he was enlightened by the important speech of General Secretary Xi Jinping, which increased confidence in our own culture, encouraged us to improve the research level of Chinese history and culture and better develop a modern Chinese civilization. We should deeply understand the needs of the times, promote the innovation in historiography with integrated development, unearth new materials, identify new problems, put forward new viewpoints, promote the fine traditional Chinese culture, and carry out creative transformation and innovative development. We will continue to climb along the path giving priority to empirical research on the history of the Yuan Dynasty along with the exploration of the history of Qin and Han Dynasties to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and strive to promote the construction of modern civilization of the Chinese nation while ensuring well-organized connection between tradition and modernity”, Li said.
Under the guidance of the gist of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech, Nankai University will promote the creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional Chinese culture, push ahead with the building of a strong socialist culture in China, and make new contributions to developing a modern Chinese civilization.
