The Forum of Presidents (Deans) for the Building of National First-class History Disciplines, hosted by the Faculty of History of Nankai University, was held at the Multi-functional Hall 114 of the East Yewu Building on Jinnan Campus on October 4. Leaders of Nankai University and over 60 presidents (deans) responsible for the building of national first-class history disciplines attended the forum.
The forum officially began at 14:00. The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Ding Jianmin, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History of Nankai University, and Fang Yongchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Nankai University, was the first to deliver a speech. In his speech, Fang Yongchun introduced the development of Nankai University’s history discipline and the basic situation of the building of “double first-class” discipline at the university. He hoped that universities across the country strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the building of first-class history disciplines, and promote the building of first-class universities through the building of first-class disciplines, and wished the forum and celebration events a complete success.
Subsequently, Professor Yu Xinzhong, Dean of the Faculty of History of Nankai University, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the Faculty, expressing heartfelt thanks to all the guests for their presence. Professor Huang Yang, Dean of the Department of History of Fudan University, delivered a speech on behalf of the sister faculties and departments, saying that this forum provides a great platform for the exchange of experience in the building of first-class history disciplines in China.
The keynote speech session began at 14:50. The keynote speech session was hosted by Professor A Feng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University History Department. Professor Liu Qingzhu, Dean of the School of History and School of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage of Zhengzhou University; Professor Han Dongyu, Director of the Research Center for the History of World Civilizations of Northeast Normal University; Professor Zhang Sheng, Dean of the School of History of Nanjing University, and Professor Shi Yunli, Executive Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Science and Technology of China, made development reports on behalf of the disciplines of archaeology, world history, China’s history and history of science and technology. In the end, Professor Fu Chengshuang, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History of Nankai University, introduced the building of first-class history discipline at Nankai University.
Three symposiums on the development of disciplines with the themes of talent introduction, scientific research and student cultivation were held at 16:30.
The branch forum on talent introduction was chaired by Professor Wang Qisheng, Dean of the Department of History of Peking University. Professor A Feng, Secretary of the Department of History of Tsinghua University; Professor Sun Yinggang, Executive Vice Dean of the School of History of Zhejiang University; and Professor Lyu Hongliang, Dean of the School of History and Culture of Sichuan University, were the introduction speakers. Professor Liu Anzhi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of History of Wuhan University; Professor Wang Tiejun, Dean of the History School of Liaoning University; Professor Ma Doucheng, Dean of the School of History of Qingdao University; Professor Zhang Naihe, Dean of the School of History of Tianjin Normal University; Professor Dai Guoxi, Deputy Dean of the School of History and Culture of Shandong University; Professor Liu Limin, Deputy Dean of the School of History and Culture of Hunan Normal University; Professor Li Yushang, Dean of the Department of History of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Professor Han Dongyu, Director of the Research Center for the History of World Civilizations of Northeast Normal University; and Professor Yu Xinzhong and Professor Fu Chengshuang from the Faculty of History of Nankai University delivered speeches, with a focus on the introduction and cultivation of talents, the reform of the postdoctoral system, and the differences in talent policies in different regions and universities.
The branch forum on scientific research was chaired by Professor Zhang Xiaohong, Director of the Center for Historical Geographical Studies of Fudan University. Professor Zhang Kan, Dean of the School of History and Cultural Heritage of Xiamen University; Professor Dong Haozhi, Dean of the School of History and Culture of Northeast Normal University; and Qian Wei, Dean of the Institute for Cultural Heritage and History of Science and Technology of USTB, served as introduction speakers. Professor Zhu Hu, Dean of the School of History of Renmin University of China; Professor Qi Chenyun, Dean of School of History and Culture of Henan University; Professor Li Xuetao, Dean of the School of History of Beijing Foreign Studies University; Professor Sheng Xianfeng, Dean of the School of History of Anhui University; Professor Yang Peina, Deputy Dean of the Department of History of Sun Yat-sen University; Professor Li Yunfei, Deputy Dean of the College of Liberal Arts of Jinan University; Professor Zhang Sheng, Dean of the School of History of Nanjing University; Professor Shi Yunli, Executive Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of University of Science and Technology of China; Professor Liu Yuebing, Dean of the Japan Institute of Nankai University; and Professor Ding Jianmin of the Faculty of History of Nankai University delivered speeches, with a focus on the building of competitive disciplines, balanced development and resource allocation, as well as discipline integration.
The branch forum on student cultivation was chaired by Professor Liang Zhi, Dean of the Department of History of East China Normal University. Professor Wu Qi, Dean of the School of History and Culture of Central China Normal University; Professor Liu Xiaodong, Dean of the School of History and Culture of South China Normal University; and Professor Wang Jian, Dean of the School of Social Development of Nanjing Normal University acted as the introduction speakers. Professor Huang Yang, Dean of the Department of History of Fudan University; Professor Zhang Hao, Dean of the School of History of Beijing Normal University; Professor Li Bingzhong, Dean of the School of History and Civilization of Shaanxi Normal University; Professor Li Jun, Dean of the History School of Northwest University; Professor Zhao Xiaohua, Dean of the School of Humanities of China University of Political Science and Law; Professor Yao Baihui, Deputy Dean of the School of History of Capital Normal University; Professor Huang Hongshan, Deputy Dean of the School of Sociology of Soochow University; Professor Liu Zhenggang, Dean of the Department of History of Jinan University; Professor Guo Dantong, Dean of the Department of History of College of Liberal Arts, Shanghai University; Professor Wang Xingchen, Dean of the Department of History, College of History and Tourism Culture of Inner Mongolia University; and Professors Xia Yan and Yuan Shengwen, Deputy Deans of the Faculty of History of Nankai University, delivered speeches, with a focus on the optimization of training program, the implementation of ancillary policies such as “plan for strengthening basic disciplines” and “top-notch talent program”, the training and employment of normal university students.
The forum entered the concluding stage at 18:00. The closing ceremony was moderated by Huang Jiayou, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Faculty of History of Nankai University. Professor Liu Anzhi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of History of Wuhan University; Professor Zhu Hu, Dean of the School of History of Renmin University of China; and Professor Zhang Hao, Dean of the School of History of Beijing Normal University, made concluding remarks on behalf of the participants of three forums. At 18:30, the forum successfully concluded amidst enthusiastic applause.
As an important part of the centennial celebrations of Nankai University’s history discipline, this forum focuses on the core theme of discipline building, promotes the sharing of experience and collaborative innovation for first-class history disciplines at universities across the country, and facilitates the exploration of new concepts, new strategies and new measures for the development of history disciplines in the new era, providing an opportunity for fostering exchanges and cooperation among sister faculties and colleges.
