In order to share scientific research achievements of the current year and promote academic exchanges, the Department of Archaeology and Museology of the Faculty of History of Nankai University held the 3rd Nankai University Scientific Research Seminar on Archaeology, Cultural Heritage and Museology as well as Interdisciplinary Seminar from November 3 to 5. The conference was co-organized by the Department of Archaeology and Museology of the Faculty of History of Nankai University, Nankai University Museum, Nankai University Archaeology and Museology Research Center, and Center for Global Civilizations of Nankai University. Sixteen teachers, including Prof. Liu Yi, Curator of Nankai University Museum; Prof. Yuan Shengwen, Associate Dean of the Faculty of History; and Prof. Jia Hongbo, Prof. Liu Zunzhi and Prof. Zhang Guowen of the Department of Archaeology and Museology, as well as dozens of students, participated in the discussions.
On the afternoon of November 3, Prof. Yuan Shengwen presided over the opening ceremony, and Prof. Liu Yi delivered an opening speech. Prof. Liu Yi reviewed the history and developments of the archaeology, cultural heritage and museology discipline at Nankai University, saying that the annual scientific research seminar can promote discipline construction, as evidenced by the previous two sessions. Subsequently, seven teachers, including Prof. Liu Yi, Prof. Yuan Shengwen, Prof. Jia Hongbo, Prof. Liu Zunzhi and Prof. Zhang Guowen, made academic reports on scientific research achievements they made this year. On November 4, sixteen doctoral students including Pei Yujie and Zang Zhihan made reports on their personal scientific research outcomes in two groups according to the research areas. Twelve teachers including Li Yuqi, Liu Yang, Bai Yaoyao, Liang Jinpeng, and Qi Guang made comments on reports. Auditor students were also actively engaged in communications.
On November 5, nine teachers, including Liu Yifang, Deng Lingling, Yu Huiying, and Ma Jiao, delivered academic reports. After the report session, Prof. Jia Hongbo, Associate Professor Chen Chang, teacher Wang Yin, as well as Duan Xiaoting and Hao Yating, two doctoral students, reported the meeting outcomes on behalf of each branch venue. They agreed that the report session covered extensive ground in terms of time, region and discipline category, and that the participation of teachers and students in the same meeting benefited teachers as well as students. Prof. Liu Zunzhi made an academic summary of the conference. He recognized the innovative reports and the role of this conference in promoting scientific research and teaching, and proposed conducting comprehensive and synergistic research to form the characteristics of Nankai University. In the end, Prof. Liu Yi gave concluding remarks and made a closing speech. He spoke highly of this conference’s outcomes, and advocated that future scientific research seminars should not be limited to certain grades, so as to encourage the involvement of master’s and undergraduate students.
This is an important conference for Nankai University to make overall planning for the development of archaeology, cultural heritage and museology disciplines, which showcases the discipline’s scientific research achievements in the past year, and demonstrates the academic spirit of Nankai University’s teachers and students for building on past achievements and making pioneering efforts in history discipline in the new century. It serves as a high-quality communication platform for the sustainable development of the discipline.
