Professor Jiang Pei of the Faculty of History, Nankai University, wrote the national planning textbook of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan for general higher education, Newly Edited History of China, Modern History (Volume II), which was published by the Higher Education Press. It marked another milestone in the construction of teaching materials of the Faculty.
The textbook consists of 770 thousand Chinese characters and is a research monograph. As a hard-won fruit created by the author after ten years of devotion and refinement, Newly Edited History of China, Modern History (Volume II) incorporated the latest research results from the academic community and based its contents on relevant important historical literature. Through concise narrations throughout the 14 chapters, the book clearly outlines basic clues of China's transformation from a traditional society in 1912 to a modern one in 1949. It examines the diachronic evolution of China's political, economic and cultural tradition driven by external forces while describing major events and changes in this period, and synchronically analyzes the profound impact of the international political conditions and economic integration on China's all-round development from the international perspective. It not only reflects the paradigm of recent research on the history of the Republic of China in the academic community, but also highlights the characteristics of Historiography of Nankai University.
The Faculty has been committed to promoting textbook construction, improving the mechanism for textbook construction, and mobilizing the enthusiasm of teachers to write high-quality textbooks. Many other textbooks are now scheduled to be compiled.
