The Ministry of Education recently issued the Circular of the Ministry of Education on Announcing the Results of Accreditation of Second Batch of National First-class Undergraduate Courses (Jiaogaohan [2023] No. 7). According to the results of accreditation, the course “Virtual Simulation Experiment on the Design and Development of Museum Cultural and Creative Products” run by Associate Professor Zhang Jingwen of the Faculty of History, Nankai University was rated as a first-class course in virtual simulation experiment teaching. So far, we have offered five national first-class undergraduate courses.
The course “Virtual Simulation Experiment on the Design and Development of Museum Cultural and Creative Products” is a featured experimental teaching course run by Nankai University’s Cultural Relics and Museology Program to meet the needs of the museum industry for high-caliber personnel. Based on the high-quality cultural relics resources of Nankai University Museum and the results of multidisciplinary research, the experiment guides students to complete the entire creation process covering the extraction and processing of cultural relics elements and the mapping of creative thinking to the product model by giving a visual, concrete, and dynamic presentation of the R&D process and design methods of cultural and creative products. In addition to slashing the cost of training and avoiding operational risks, it helps students intuitively understand and express innovative design minds and improve teaching efficiency.
The Ministry of Education’s “Dual 10,000 Plan” for first-class undergraduate courses is an important initiative for the Ministry of Education to follow General Secretary Xi Jinping’s exposition on education, fulfill the fundamental task of fostering morality through education, and promote the high-quality development of higher education. It aims to establish a multi-type and diversified teaching content and curriculum system by adopting a new curriculum concept, reshaping the curriculum form, reconstructing the curriculum content, optimizing the teaching design, and innovating teaching methods.
We have always put a high value on undergraduate teaching. The selection of this course as a first-class course will provide better support and guarantee for our undergraduate teaching, and will also provide a better platform for students to acquire knowledge and improve practical ability. Going forward, our Faculty will continue to focus on curriculum establishment as the starting point, increase efforts to build and reform courses, and improve the teaching caliber and level of undergraduate education on all fronts.
